Pride in Hull is the annual celebration of the LGBT+ community in Hull and East Yorkshire. It is the largest free to attend Pride event in the UK, attracting over 50,000 visitors in one day in 2018.
As Chair of the charity that organises the event, I am involved in all aspects of the arrangements, from security, finance and health and safety to meeting with emergency services and liaising with contractors. I am also heavily involved in programming and have managed all aspects of marketing and PR for the event for a number of years. During this time attendance has grown from approximately 12,000 to the 50,000 who attended in 2018.
I generated extensive coverage of the event by implementing a thorough communications strategy which has led to extensive local and regional coverage across print, broadcast and online media, along with national coverage in LGBT publications including Attitude and Gay Times, and features in national listings such as Metro, Time Out and The Guardian Weekend.
